Happy Halloween!

November 3, 2009

I love Halloween! I love it when little kids get all dressed up (okay, I like it when adults do it to) – but the kids are really cute! We spent Halloween with our close friends and I couldn’t resist getting some pictures of the kids getting ready to head out!

Awww, isn't it cute when they play nice?

Super happy and ready for CANDY!!

Super happy and ready for CANDY!!

I have photographed these kiddos several times and they just couldn’t be any cuter! We spent a chilly morning at the park having some fun – well, there was some crying and a dead catepillar – but in the end, everything turned out great! Thanks for letting me document year number two and five!

Too sweet!

Pumpkins and elephants!!

November 3, 2009

On Friday, the Oregon Zoo did their annual “Squishing of the Squash”! I had never heard of it, but I know a good photo opportunity when I hear one! We have a baby elephant named Samudra at the Oregon Zoo that turned one in August and he got to participate in this years squish. I was SO EXCITED to finally see him! I can’t even begin to describe how cute and playful he is!
The HUGE pumpkin donated by the Wilson Family Farm for the Squishing of the Squash event weighed in at 1350 pounds! The elephants had so much fun and so did I! Al’s Garden Center also donated pumpkins for the elephants and other animals. It was pumpkins and animals all weekend long! I wish I could have seen more of the fun – but for now, you can enjoy some pictures of the elephants enjoying their giant squished squash!

I didn't get to see them squish it, but I got to see the feast!

I thought it was so cute how they were feeding each other!

I FINALLY forced myself to sit down and order new business cards. It’s hard to run a business without business cards. The coolest thing is that I didn’t have to pick just one photo, I got to select up to ten! If you haven’t checked out Moo.com, you should – it’s so cool!! Here is a sneak peak of the images that I used- I can’t wait to see them!!

Fun for all ages!

August 13, 2009

A few weeks ago I attended my husbands company picnic. It’s always fun to bring my camera (it gives me something to hide behind!) and take some candid shots of everyone having a good time. I love photographing kids being kids, and dogs being dogs! There were so many cute photos and I was so excited to do a blog post! There was lots of fun and games for the kids, and I even got a few pictures of some adults (so unlike me!). My favorite pictures are the last few pictures of little Alex totally hamming it up for the camera! Click here to take a peek: www.juliemelfiphotography.com/KCDL. Ahhh, summertime!!

I hope you are enjoying every minute of August and spending lots of time with the people you love!

Just for fun-

August 13, 2009

For six weeks I have been working at an office building that houses the oldest construction company in Portland, Oregon. Cali comes to work with me many days and on our mini walks around the grounds outside I kept seeing all kinds of cool textures, colors, and a couple of really cool old cars that I thought would be fun to photograph. So, one day last week I decided to bring my camera to work and take a few shots of what I was seeing, just for fun. (I had hopes of catching a few pictures of Cody the Labradoodle too, but turns out he didn’t come to work that day :( So sad!)

So here is my creative experiment in finding beauty in everyday junk :)

Meet Skippy!

August 4, 2009

We thought we had a really loud bird in our backyard, but it turns out we have a cute little squirrel that we have decided to call Skippy. He is making a mess of our hazelnut tree and he is very vocal, he’s lucky he is so darn cute! I have talked to him a few times and he looks at me like he understands every word ;) He does not like it when Cali tries to see who I am talking to and he takes off as fast as he can!

It’s a good thing that I’m not too interested in harvesting the hazelnuts, or he’d be in trouble! (being so cute helps too!!)

Dog Day Afternoon

July 20, 2009

We had a little party over the weekend and invited some friends and their dogs. It was my intention to just enjoy the party and leave the camera in the house (I have a tendency to hide behind my camera at events!) but I only made it for about an hour! How could I possibly pass up the opportunity to photograph this group? You’ll see what I mean :)

Great company, adorable dogs and lots of beer . . . a perfect summer afternoon! I hope everyone had as much fun as we did – thanks for coming!!
Meet Stella the pug and Butterscotch the long haired mini dachshund . . see, I told you they were cute!
